Share Internet access on your home network

Step 1 - Installing Internet Connection Sharing

Because the Internet Connection Sharing feature of Windows 98 Second Edition is not normally installed in the default setup, the first step of our how-to covers installation.

To do that, click on the Start button and select Settings > Control Panel. Double click on Add/Remove Programs and select the Windows Setup tab. Click on Internet Tools and click on "Details." Now make sure to check the box for Internet Connection Sharing as we show here:

Click on OK. At this point, the installation program will ask you for your Windows 98 CD if you don't have the compressed installation files (called CAB files) on another part of your hard drive.

When installation is complete, Windows will automatically launch the Internet Connection Sharing Wizard (shown here) and you're ready to begin configuring the host in Step 2.

So, let's move on to Step 2.
