This is the hardware section covering the technology that uses existing phone lines in your home to connect computers throughout the house. We'll include reviews of hardware, tips and recommendations, technology updates and more. Check back often. Reviews Netgear Cable/DSL Phoneline Router (RP334) -- This router does so much, we had a hard time determining the appropriate subsection of our hardware section for this review. As the name suggests, it's a router, a switch and a phoneline bridge all in one. We found that it was solidly built, functioned well and installed with ease. 06/09/02 Netgear Phoneline 10x PCI Adapter (PA301) and USB Adapter (PA101) -- We found these phoneline adapters to be solidly constructed, with good software, excellent performance and a reasonable price. That combination wins Editor's Choice awards for both the PA301 and PA101. 1/03/02 D-Link 10Mb Phoneline Network In a Box (DHN-910) -- Once again, D-Link delivers a networking kit squarely targeted at the home network user. From the description on the box, to the simple installation routines, to the detailed "quick starter guide," D-Link makes this kit just about as easy as possible for folks putting together their first home network. 6/3/00 Intel AnyPoint Network Kit -- Leave it to Intel to produce and market a home networking kit that is very good and very expensive. From the minute you open this phoneline networking kit, you know it is a quality product. Check out our review here or go directly to Intel. 6/13/99 ActionTec ActionLink Home Networking Kit for two PCs -- From the time we opened the box, this seemed like a kit well focused on the "newbie" networking customer. The kit has an excellent manual, a quick start guide and a single CD for installation. Could this be the first true "plug-n-play" simple networking kit? The answer is: almost. Check out our review here or go directly to ActionTec. 5/13/99 Tut Systems HomeRun adapters (HR1000T) -- Tut is the company that developed and licensed the technology behind many of the phoneline kits now on the market. Yet these HR1000T adapters are unique: small external boxes that provide some very important advantages. In fact, we think for many home networkers these adapters would create the absolute BEST phoneline system. Check it out here or go directly to Tut Systems for more. 4/25/99 Diamond HomeFree Phoneline kit -- we had a few, minor installation problems with this kit, but once we worked through those, this kit performed as promised. File and internet sharing was easy and performance was very close to the stated 1Mbps (one megabit per second) speed. Check out the Diamond kit review here or go directly to Diamond for more information. 4/14/99
